Q. Should I let you know that I had an increase in size of the family, or will be moving?
A. Absolutely! First so we can congratulate you & then we can adjust your burn rate so you don’t run out, or if you are moving we won't come fill up the house you don’t even live in.
Q. Does HSI put anything in to keep my heating oil from freezing?
A. Yes we put an anti-gel additive in all outside heating oil tanks we deliver to.
Q. If I am a 'will call' customer, how long prior to delivery do I need to call?
A. You should notify HSI that you need an oil delivery when your tank reaches ¼. HSI policy is 2 business days notice for delivery or it is considered an “Emergency Delivery” which is subject to a $75 surcharge.
Q. I am a Pre-buy customer & I didn’t use all of my "gallons" by the end of the contract (May 31st), now what?
A. You have a monetary credit with HSI at the start of the season, and that money is used to “pay for” your deliveries. The pre-pay contracts are exactly that, a contract. We likewise contract the fuel to be able to lock in you rate. Please only purchase the fuel that you will use for the season. If you would like a delivery before the contract ends, contact the office. Remember, if you are calling for a delivery, 150 gallon minimum rules apply. Before entering into any contract, please be sure to read it first.
Q. I don't want to fill out a credit application, and I want to send you a check - now what?
A. You could leave a credit card on file in our office as a means of extending credit to you, and then send your check in after your delivery. Of course, if for some reason you don't send your check, we will charge your crdit card as your means of payment.
Here are some for you new customers!
Q. Why do I need to call for my first two deliveries?
A. Well, we go into depth of degree days on the Automatic Delivery page, but to get an accurate burn calculation on your residence, our fuel computers need two back-to-back fill-ups to optimally perform the calculations.
Q. There is sooooo much information on my delivery ticket. How do I read it all?
A. There is alot of information printed on our delivery tickets. Some of it is for the dispatcher to use, some of it is for the driver to use, and some of it is for you the customer . For a better explanation, follow this link to reveal an actual ticket with defined terms. EXPLAIN MY TICKET .
Q. Why do I need my tank inspected prior to my first delivery?
A. We don’t want to deliver to a tank that could be dangerous. Some of what we are looking for is that the tank is level, the legs are on a good surface & not rusted, overall tank condition, there is a tank fill whistle in place and fill & vent pipe material.
Q. What is the big deal about my vent whistle? My old oil company didn't care, they listened for the pipe to gurgle.
A. While it is possible to "hear" the gurgling oil as the tank is filled, it is also possible to hear all of the other noises around the area while your tank is filled as well. It is a safety issue that protects both you and the driver during fill-up - we both don't want to have oil in your yard! We do enforce a "No Whistle, No Fill" Policy. Q. Why is my fill & vent material important? They're my pipes!
A. In the State of Pennsylvania the fill & vent pipes must be constructed of either steel or nodular iron to meet code. PVC or copper pipes can melt if you have a fire & the oil that would be in tank would now feed the fire!
