Copper Fill & Vent Pipes (and PVC too)

What's all the fuss about? My previous oil company didn't care, so why do you?

Simply put, we want you to be safe. And we want you to be legal. It is illegal in the state of Pennsylvania, as per the State Fire Marshall, to be in violation of Title 37, which mandates the use of black pipe, commonly known as ferrous pipe, in fill and vent situations. The case against PVC is very easily made. It becomes brittle in the cold, and becomes susceptible to breakage when hooked up to a pump truck and jostled around during filling. Furthermore, it is plastic, and of course would not stand up to fire at all. As far as copper piping is concerned, only brazed or threaded copper pipe, being of a special alloy, is permitted in residential and commercial installations. Aged solder joints in common sweat fit copper will also fail from time to time due to the force of delivery, and this same solder would melt very easily in the event of a fire, along with the pipe itself. Please click on the links below to learn more about these regulations. Heavener Supply will not deliver product if you have PVC pipes. We will deliver limited quantities to tanks with copper pipes to allow the customer the opportunity to correct the problem. This can be done by contacting our Service Department, a local contractor, can be handled in house. We will require that the pipes be inspected during your next fill-up.
